THE STORY

India's waste problem is scaling faster than its cities.

130–150K
tonnes of municipal solid waste generated daily across urban India
~50M
metric tonnes of waste produced per year, at current rates
125M
projected metric tonnes/year by 2031
800M
metric tonnes of legacy waste sitting in 3,159 dumpsites (CPCB)

What is also of concern is that not only is the quantity increasing, but the composition of waste is changing — from a high percentage of biodegradable waste to non-biodegradable waste. The waste characterisation determines the strategy for its management. And then there is the problem of legacy waste lying in dumpyards scattered across cities.

Over the past few years, there has been a rapid shift in the strategic direction of waste management in the country. The flagship programmes of the Government of India — the Swachh Bharat Mission, AMRUT, and the Smart Cities programme — have all created an enabling environment to drive this transformation.

Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) 2.0, launched September 1, 2021, is built on a clear strategy: source segregation, processing of waste (biodegradable and non-biodegradable), and minimising what's sent to landfill. Under SBM 2.0 guidelines, only inert waste and process rejects — never more than 20% of total waste — may go to landfill. The goal: a zero-landfill city.

SERVICES

We ensure your plastic waste is managed responsibly and effectively.

The global plastics crisis demands solutions that move beyond traditional waste management. Pyrolysis — thermal decomposition in the absence of oxygen — converts plastic waste into valuable resources, reducing landfill burden and the environmental impact of virgin plastic production.

Plastic types & melting points

PolymerMelting rangeCommon use
Polyethylene — LDPE / HDPE105–115°C / 120–130°CPackaging film, bottles, bags
Polypropylene (PP)160–170°CFood containers, automotive parts, fibers
Polystyrene (PS)100–120°CDisposable cups, foam, insulation
PET250–260°CBeverage bottles, synthetic fibers
PVC160–210°CPipes, cables, medical devices

Globally, only around 9% of plastics are recycled — the rest is landfilled or incinerated. That gap is the opening for pyrolysis.

THE PYROLYSIS PROCESS

Plastic waste, heated without oxygen, breaks into three usable streams.

INPUT

Sorted plastic waste

Collected and sorted feedstock enters the reactor.

PROCESS

Pyrolysis reactor

Long polymer chains break down under heat, oxygen-free.

Pyrolysis oil
60–70%
Pyrolysis gas
10–20%
Char
10–20%

Where each output goes

Pyrolysis oil

  • Refined into diesel and gasoline
  • Feedstock for new plastics and petrochemicals
  • Industrial heating oil

Pyrolysis gas

  • Fuels the reactor itself, cutting energy use
  • Combined heat and power (CHP) systems
  • Feedstock for hydrogen production

Char

  • Soil amendment for fertility and water retention
  • Activated carbon for water and air purification
  • Reducing agent in steel and cement production

Circular economy benefits

Waste reduction

Significantly reduces plastic volume sent to landfill.

Resource recovery

Converts waste into value, cutting reliance on virgin fossil fuels.

Lower emissions

Alternative fuels and feedstocks reduce greenhouse gas output.

Energy recovery

Pyrolysis gas powers the process itself, improving efficiency.

Closing the loop

Waste becomes new products — minimizing environmental impact.

Plastics pyrolysis is a crucial technology for a sustainable, circular economy. Ongoing research is focused on optimizing the process, improving output quality, and scaling operations to meet growing demand.

ABOUT US

Five founders. One plant. A growing answer to plastic pollution.

Pentaz Recycling LLP is a Limited Liability Partnership incorporated on May 25, 2023, in Bangalore, Karnataka. The company is a pioneer in plastic pyrolysis — converting plastic waste into oil, gas, and char.

Founded by five partners with a shared vision, Pentaz's mission is a sustainable path for plastic waste management by turning it into valuable products.

Our state-of-the-art plant in Kumbalgodu, Karnataka, processes 10 tons of plastic waste per day. Products serve the automotive, chemical, and energy sectors — and the plant is built to be energy-efficient with minimal emissions.
